The concept of a mental workout is that we need to make a daily commitment to working our minds in order to evolve our psycho-spiritual life and access its resources. I can implement a mental workout by participating in contemplative practice a form of mental training daily. Antoine Lutz and colleagues at the University of Wisconsin comparing contemplative scholars with a control group in order to study gamma waves; they found that the contemplatives brains showed a progressive increase and synchronization of gamma waves which suggest mental integration at a higher level (Dacher,2006).

Well I am glad the exercise worked well for yo I think that I have to practice it a little more to get to the point that I am more in control of my area and peacefulness. I also believe that mental exercise is very important I work in a large veterans nursing home and it seem you can tell which ones used their mind and body and which ones did not. What a difference in their understanding and mental ability .
ReplyDeleteI would definitely like to learn more about the connection between mental fitness and aging. I remember when the Nintendo DS brought out its brain games and it would give an estimate of the players mental age interpreted from the results of the game... perhaps going to school for a bit later in my years will prove to be mentally beneficial (-;
DeleteI would recommend the loving kindness exercise to others as well, even kids and teens. A lot of guided meditation is to esoteric or abstract for children to really dig into and participate in, but the first time I listened to this exercise, I thought it was a good one for people of any age because it uses simple techniques and simple terms (and isn't TOO long!).
ReplyDeleteI too would recommend this exercise to others, It's one of those exercises that make you think about youself and the loving-kindness to can give to others. I'm glad to hear that you found the exercise as a sign of growth and graditude because it was a uplifting experience for me and it eased my mind. Great post and I look forward to reading your future blog post.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you got your family involved was that hard or was it like okay and that was a great to have one of them sit with you. My husband who is really into Personal Development and learning did not like it much. He said it was hard for him to take in others suffering or to even think about it. He did like the rest of it. How did you feel about taking in the suffering?
ReplyDeleteStephanie,
ReplyDeleteI felt that it went well with my oldest son and I. We are both "sensitive" to others and pray/discuss and look for ways to help others so it felt very natural to take in their suffering and let it dissolve and then send out warm loving peaceful thoughts there way.
